Ward Four Flyers Delivered Late For a Reason
In the previous posting I discussed a problem with the delivery of my campaign flyers. You received them between the 15th and today for a reason. Many of you had already voted before receiving the information. Why? Time for some details.
In mid-September I delivered my calling card to the home of every active voter. Because I had a prior commitment to be out of town in October dating back from January, I knew it would be necessary to hire a small business to deliver my information if you were to receive it before the ballots arrived beginning the 12th.
I hired the business used by the City for all of its Ward flyers; Yankee Peddler Postal Alternatives. It is owned by John Russell Minger of Englewood. Since he had provided several years of reliable service to the City, I thought it was a good choice. I hired him in September so that he could deliver the information between October 1st and 5th. He was paid on September 28th; when he picked up the flyers from the printer.
I was out of town from the 5th through the 13th. On the ensuing weekend I received some inquiries from friends who had not received a flyer. After some follow up I call Yankee Peddler on Monday the 15th and was told all flyers had been delivered. I subsequently made some more calls and contacts in other areas of the Ward and received the same feedback. On Tuesday the 16th I talked to Yankee again and was told that I would have to go over the ward map with Mr. Minger on Wednesday during the mid-morning. There was no answer at the appointed time or ever.
Surprise, on Wednesday the 17th a flyer appeared on my front door on Kennedy Drive. I then received reports that the areas south of Kennedy and west of Livingston were receiving the flyer. I called Yankee and left a message that it appears that delivery had started? I received no response. Even though I had been told that they were all delivered before the 5th, I was pleased to see some action, finally. I then posted the previous article.
On the 18th and 19th I called to ascertain when Yankee might be done. I did not receive a call back on either day or to this day; the 26th. All calls to the office and emergency cell phone have been ignored. As learned the ensuing weekend, they delivered from Kennedy to 104th ave.; west to the city limits. They then disappeared.
On Monday the 22nd, I contacted Ladybug Printers and asked them to start reprinting flyers. Since the 23rd a new friend and myself have delivered all the flyers you have just received. This week my wife, Bud Bass and another person jumped in to help finish the ward. Delivering the flyers very late, and personally, has resulted in one big positive. I was not knocking on doors while walking the streets again, but every resident I accidentally encountered thanked me for running. Not a reliable poll but it felt good. Thank you.
As far as what will happen with regards to Yankee, know there will be some consequences. John is not going to get away with taking my money and defaulting on a contract. As far as what role the city or persons associated with the city may or might have played in the default by Yankee Peddler, remains to be determined in a subsequent action against Yankee Peddler.
